Stepping Out In Faith
Written By: Adriana Sanchez
My very first canvassing summer I remember sitting at worship with sparkling eyes hearing the amazing testimonies from the veteran canvassers. I thought, “When will I have my stories to tell?”
God hears the longings of our hearts and He acts upon them. That morning we were canvassing in my neighborhood, very special feeling that was. To reach out to the neighbors I grew up with. As I was walking a teenage girl passed by. Her earphones were in, and I didn’t think much about it. Then I felt a strong conviction to go back and reach out to her. I didn’t know what I was going to say but I taped her on the shoulder. After some small talk she opened up and shared how her best friend had just died in a accident, and how she was dealing with extreme depression. Now she’s in tears, and I just don’t know what to do so I wisped a prayer, “Lord I need help, Amen.” Suddenly I started sharing the story of Job with her, and asked if I could pray with her. She looked at me with her big brown eyes and said, “No one has ever taught me how to pray.” I shared with her how praying is like talking to a friend and how God is willing to listen to anything we have to say, He’s waiting. Together we prayed and I gifted her a steps to Christ.
I thought to myself anyone could do a better job than I can, but if we all say that who will actually reach out to those that are hurting. I plead beloved go and reach out as the Marines say, “Yesterday you said tomorrow.” The time is now, someone is waiting and you can reach them best.
