Encouraging Others

As another door slammed in my face, my mind started to wander away from the worship talk that was given just that very morning about trusting in God through discouragements. My books books began to weigh me down and my feet started to drag as I walked from door-to-door. Discouragement and doubt filled my mind as tears dripped from my watery eyes. Although I was in no condition to keep moving forward, I decided to push on through all the feelings that were clouding my mind.

I dragged my feet to the next door and timidly knocked. A tall middle-aged man came to the door and greeted me kindly. With a feeble voice, I began to canvass him. I tried with all my might to fight back the tears but in the middle of it, my fight was of no avail. I  looked at the man and repeatedly apologized. He began to tell me that he was unable to help with a donation because of his impending surgery. He was trying to save every last penny he had to pay for his back surgery. I nodded and just said, "Okay, that's fine." Before I left I asked him if I could pray for him and he kindly agreed. I prayed fervently for the Lord to watch over him during surgery and that his back would heal with little to no pain. After I finished praying, he began to tear up as he told me how much my prayer meant to him. Before I left he called me his angel and told me how I was sent from God to comfort and assure him. Although this man was not able to donate any money for my books, he left a deep impression on my heart. I walked away from his house with a big smile and tearless eyes.

The Lord taught me something important that day. Just when we feel the most discouraged, God sends us divine appointments to show us His goodness and mercy. I was reminded to always trust in God. This is just one of the many experiences that happen each time a student goes out to the battlefield for Christ. We hope you are encouraged by the stories we are sharing with you. Hopefully these stories will inspire you to have experiences of your own.
